A Water Conservation Forum for the Public on December 10, 2024

Looking at the 2024 Drought and Beyond, Hosted by WSU Extension

WSU Clallam County extension is excited to announce an end of year water conservation
forum on December 10th from 6:00-7:30pm at the Sequim Civic Center on 152 W. Cedar St.
This forum will feature a panel of local water experts discussing how the 2024 drought is
impacting Peninsula life, as well as share water-saving strategies we can bring into 2025.
Why are drought conditions so frequent here? Why were fish struggling to migrate upstream this summer? Who is most at risk when our river flow is low? Come to this event to learn answers to all these questions and more! Invited guest speakers will include Chandra Johnson, GIS Specialist at Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Ann Soule, Retired Hydrologist & Water Planning Professional, Clea Rome, Director of WSU Clallam Extension, and Meggan Uecker, Resource Analyst for the City of Sequim Public Works. Topics addressed will include local hydrology of the Dungeness, migrating fish passage efforts, irrigating during drought and more. The event will end with a Q&A for the public as well as provide water conservation tips and strategies for
individuals.
“As the rains return, it’s a perfect time of year to reflect on how drought conditions impact our community. Educating ourselves about the realities of drought can help us be more prepared for the effects it may bring next summer.” said Sammi Grieger, Water Conservation Coordinator at WSU Extension. “By understanding why droughts occur here, we can continue to appreciate and prioritize water conservation in our community.”
This event is free and open to the public. For more information about this water conservation forum, check out WSU Extension’s water conservation web page at:
