OCA joined this sign-on letter opposing the Trump administration’s proposed rescission of the Roadless Rule, which has protected some 60 million acres of forests, and thereby protected communities from water shortages, wildfire, and climate change. We also signed an earlier letter calling for stronger Roadless Rule legislation.

Trump and USDA Sec. Rollins want to defy the will of 84% of the public and roll out the red carpet for the heavy machinery of the logging, oil and gas, and mining industries to cut, dig, and blast through the wildest places in our national forests. Road building has lasting effects long after the trees become stumps, the fracking is done, and the mines are closed. Roads fragment wildlife habitat, degrade watersheds, increase pollution, spread invasive species, and worsen wildfire risk.

Check out this map from the Outdoor Alliance to identify roadless areas near and dear to you. Eliminating this rule would reduce protections for national forests on 2 million acres in Washington alone.

Submit a public comment about why you oppose eliminating the Roadless Rule until Sept. 19. Guide available here. Direct comment portal here.

You can also help stop this plan to rescind the Roadless Rule by calling your senators and House representative and asking them to oppose the rescission.
