OCA members traveled to DNR Headquarters in Olympia Tuesday, joining others from the Washington State Lands Group of the Pacific Northwest Forest Climate Alliance, calling on Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz to halt cuts of the state’s older forests, our carbon workhorses, while a longer-range plan can be developed that incorporates the Natural Climate Solutions potential of these forests, which comprise about 75,000 acres statewide (and only 4% of the state’s westside forest holdings). In the face of our climate emergency, DNR has been auctioning off these forests at a rapid rate.
