Exhibitors invited; many rebates will expire this year

As part of a nationally-organized Sun Day celebration, Olympic Climate Action will host “Sun Day: A Celebration of Renewable Energy” on Sunday, September 21, from 12-4 pm at Port Angeles City Pier. This will be an opportunity to see and learn about the many clean-energy options available for the home, yard, and road, many of which qualify for rebates through the end of this year.

Included in the exposition will be technologies such as these, available locally:
- Electric vehicles ranging from compact cars to trucks that can power a construction site or a home in an emergency.
- Electric bikes for work, play, and the whole family, ranging from pedal assist to full power.
- Home and garden tools of every description, often using interchangeable, powerful battery systems.
- Home appliances that can reduce your bills and enhance your comfort.
- Heat pump systems that can either heat or cool a home for a fraction of the energy cost of traditional technologies; the cooling function can make your house a haven from summertime wildfire smoke.
Also featured:
- Speakers and demonstrations on renewable energy and available rebates
- Local acoustic musicians
- Student Essay Contest on the topic of climate change and renewable energy:
Rebates for these technologies were made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which would have invested $370 billion in clean energy over ten years and stimulated several times that amount in private investment, according to economic research firm The Rhodium Group. These investments have been curtailed by Congress as part this year’s budget-reconciliation bill. Most rebates will now expire at the end of the year; the electric vehicle credit will expire September 30.
Of note is that special rebates are available for a limited time for lower-income households.

Sun Day is a national event celebrating the clean energy revolution, which has made solar, wind and batteries the cheapest form of power on the planet, with the price of clean energy falling 90 percent in the last decade, lowering costs, creating new jobs, and strengthening our communities.
