STATE ACTIONS- To ensure that the Commissioner of Public Lands, Hilary Franz, puts an end to logging the last remaining mature forests in western Washington, send a letter here.

Also, Tues, July 5, 9:25am: Register to attend the July BNR public meeting here, sign up for a public comment and indicate your support for a mature forest policy. More info about the July meeting here.

FEDERAL ACTIONS –By July 5: Make a comment here to the Bureau of Land Management about protecting mature forests.

By July 20: USDA invites public feedback on this question: How should the Forest Service adapt current policies to protect, conserve, and manage the national forests for climate resilience? Make a comment here.

On Friday, July 7, Olympic National Park’s art project to memorialize disappearing glaciers opens at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center with a reception from 5p.m. – 7p.m. at  1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Says the park: “The glaciers of the Olympic Mountains are vanishing due to climate change. We may only save these glaciers in the form of a song or painting, but we can still work together to care for the world and save what we have left.” Art will be available for viewing until September at the Fine Arts Center and is also posted online.

The Center for Whale Research confirms two new calves in the endangered Southern Resident killer whale population. These are the first calves born in L pod since 2021 and the first calves born in the L12 subgroup since 2018.
